Mike Perrin Interviewed on The Horn Sports Radio Show

Mike Perrin, Winstead PC attorney and former Men’s Athletic Director for The University of Texas at Austin, was interviewed on the Shirts and Skins radio segment of the Austin-based sports radio show, The Horn.

Perrin spoke with host Trey Elling about his time as Men’s Athletic Director, as well as current trends in college sports like the recent debate surrounding collegiate athletes potentially profiting off of their name, image and likeness. 

“There are many students who are able to leverage social media,” Perrin said. “I think if student athletes can’t do that too, then they’re being penalized for being student athletes.”

Perrin noted that currently, 37 states have either passed or proposed legislation in support of giving college athletes permission to profit off of their own name, image and likeness. At the national level, there are several lawmakers who are looking for federal standards that could be implemented across all 50 states. 

“The idea that a name, image and likeness is unique to every individual,” Perrin said. “It’s really fascinating and I am enjoying spending a lot of time on this.”
