Wesley Hunnell is a member of Winstead’s Construction Practice Group. Wesley’s practice focuses on real estate development, emphasizing drafting and negotiating design, consulting, and construction contracts for owners and developers for a wide range of construction projects. Before practicing law, Wesley served in the United States Army. His assignments included serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and managing a portfolio of construction projects in Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Wesley’s practical construction experience translates into superior representation for clients and a thorough understanding of the potential issues of a project. He holds an M.S. in Engineering Management from Missouri S&T University and a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Representative Experience

Condominium, Planned Community, Mixed-Use, & Multifamily:

  • Represented various owners for multifamily projects through all components design and construction in the development of Class A luxury apartments via differing project-delivery methods.
  • Represented developers (to include REITs, developers with a captive general contractor, and start-up developers) for the construction of affordable housing projects in Texas for non-profit owners using tax credit investors with public sources of financing and a tax-exempt structure.
  • Represented leading developers and builders expanding into the Texas market, including developers specializing in single family, townhome and master-planned residential communities for drafting construction, design, and consulting contract templates or negotiate with contractors, consultants, and design professionals.
  • Represented homeowners' associations and condominium associations for their common area improvements and repairs.
  • Navigated various condominium regimes to draft and negotiate design, consulting, and construction contracts for owners and developers.
  • Served as construction counsel to lenders and investors for various commercial developments.

Higher Education, Public Entities, Healthcare, & Non-profit:

  • Represented a national private university for drafting and negotiating design, consulting, and construction contracts to include capital improvements, athletic facilities, and facility maintenance, plus updated institutional form templates.
  • Provided construction counsel to public university systems for drafting and negotiating design and professional consulting contracts.
  • Provided construction counsel within Public-Private Partnership (P3) developments for public universities, local government corporations, municipal, and county-level owners.
  • Drafted and negotiated design, consulting, and construction contracts on behalf of religious organizations, non-profit charities, healthcare facilities, and quasi-governmental entities.
  • Provided construction counsel to clients for obligations and requirements under the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

Hospitality and Entertainment:

  • Represented owners for design, consulting, purchase and installation contracts within branded hotel developments.
  • Represented a golf course developer for drafting and negotiating design, construction, and supporting ancillary contracts.
  • Represented boutique hotel and restaurant developer for drafting and negotiating the design and construction contracts.
  • Provided construction counsel to a national owner for a complex family-oriented entertainment development.

Infrastructure and Land Development:

  • Drafted and negotiated sitework and infrastructure contracts for greenfield development.
  • Provided construction counsel to public utility, local government corporations, and other public entities for infrastructure development.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
